Ein Freund gesellt sich zu uns auf die Reise ...: A friend joins us on the journey...

    Hallo zusammen! Today, I'd like to introduce you to a friend of mine:
Leszek Trybała . Leszek is a passionate languages learner. He comes from Poland but he's currently living in Sweden since a couple of years. Along with his mother language, Polish, he speaks fluent Swedish, English, Spanish, German and he has studied Arabic, (& currently learning) Swahili & Serbian. So you already see how amazing he is.
      He has his own blog :leszekslanguages.blogspot.se where he talks about the languages he learns & sets his enthusiasm free. I feel really thrilled to have him as a co-author on this blog and we have already started writing the articles together so the journey will be even more colorful from now on.

I hope you enjoy his company as much as I've enjoyed it as a fellow language enthusiast and now as a co-author.

Day2: Let's say "Hallo"!

It’s day 2 . You’ve made up your mind. Got yourself ‘geared-up’ with the best resources, a notebook & want to start?.....it might be a good idea to start by learning some brief greetings & phrases to warm up…..agree? los gehts!

-Hallo! : hello, hi.

-Guten Tag!  (goo-tan tag) :
Good morning/good day!

- Guten Abend!    (goo-tan aabend)

:Good evening!


(remember: all nouns in German have the first letter in capital.)

-Gute Nacht! (goo-tan naxt)
goodnight!    ( Never guten ‘nacht’)

- wie geht es dir? (vee geet es)

(wie geht’s?)  (vee geets)
: how are you?    (informal)
-
- wie geht es Ihnen?  (formal)

(informal) - mir geht es gut. > (mee geet es goot)  = I’m fine.


 Danke!   (danka)
= Thank you!


- Und dir? (informal) = and you?

- Und Ihnen? (formal)


- bitte! (bita)   (please/ you’re welcome!) (answer to ‘‘danke“.)

- Wie heißt du? (vee haist doo)  (informal) /


wie heißen Sie? (vee haisan zee)
 = what’s your name?

- Ich heiße ..... (ish haisa)= My name is…

- Entschuldigung! (intshool-di-gang)
= Excuse me!

- Es tut mir Leid! (es toot mee lait)
= I’m sorry!

12 phrases. That should do for now. Of course, no language has a single phrase in these situations. In English, we say: "How are you?", "how are you doing?", "how is it going?", "what's up?" etc depending on the situation. right? but these are the most common. Tomorrow, let’s talk about general rules to know about German words.
